The UPM has more than 200 Research Units and several Research Institutes and Technological Centres. The contribution of the university to knowledge creation through its scientific publications is also significant. The Centre for Biomedical Technology (CTB) was born under Technical University of Madrid (UPM) coverage to bring together outstanding groups of researchers and technologists, from a variety of biomedical and technological disciplines, in a stable envi- ronment of multidisciplinary research.

The research group coordinated by Prof. Ernestina Menasalvas covers the most relevant aspects of the development of a data mining projects with special emphasis on data preparation and integration and user interaction. With more than 15 years of experience in the field of data analysis, the researchers have dedi- cated their research to public and private funding projects in different domains from the biomedical field to the web social analysis to name but a few. They have participate in the integration of data mining and data warehouse (Project financed by UPM), design of a webhouse to mine web search results (R&D project with Holos and UPM) definition of a methodology to develop data mining projects (project of Ministry of Sci- ence) and leaded a Project for semi-autonomous mining on ubiquitous devices.
